Reprogramming Your Subconcious Mind

Reprogramming your subconscious mind is the best way to solve all your problems in life. Heres how.

Reprogramming Your Subconcious Mind

Your subconscious rules your day. It consists of all the things you do automatically without any effort or struggle. That's just natural as if you need to be aware about every little action you need to do to keep yourself alive, that wont be very practical to live life.

Think of your subconscious like a computer. You have downloaded software that is running right now. We are all born with windows 10 (breathing, eating etc) but throughout our lives we download unique software from our experience.

The Double-Edged Sword

Your subconscious mind can be programmed to do anything you want. The subconscious doesn't care what you program it to do. To the subconscious, it is irrelevant on if you programmed it to smoke a cigarette when you're stressed or if you programmed it to run a successful business.

So our mission here is to prune out all the undesirable qualities you dont want to have and program new and more positive programming. You're like the programmer trying to figure out where is the faulty line of code when the software goes to shit.

Awareness

The only way to change how your subconscious mind works is by spotlighting awareness into the thing you want to change. We intervene what we do unconsciously and automatically with awareness and mindfulness.

Naturally, since you're unaware of your subconscious behaviours, you'll only start to take note of them once you start to encounter problems in the world. That is the most practical way of placing awareness on your problems. But oftentimes, that is too late. We dont want to get into trouble if we can prevent these problems beforehand.

Components Of The Subconscious Mind

The first component is your beliefs. What you think and believe about the world will guide your behaviour and decision-making subconsciously. If you are constantly making bad decisions, perhaps place awareness there.

The second component is your identity. Who you think you are and what you stand for. These are often shaped by your past experiences and traumas. If you feel that you are being controlled by some puppet playing a similar story over and over again, here is where you want to examine.

Third is your habits. These are your operant conditioning and learnt behaviours when a stimulus occurs. If you have "triggers" that lead to an undesirable action or outcome, then place awareness of what it the "trigger" and what you impulsively do to soothe yourselves.

Fourth is your modus operandi. What you think is right or wrong, how you understand the world using various models like Spiral Dynamics for explanations about the world. If you think that you have a limiting belief, your understanding of the world should be questioned (put under awareness).

Last and perhaps the most dangerous part is your filters. Your subconscious prunes and filters what information actually reaches the conscious part of your mind based on the four things I wrote above. You have preferences on what you want to pay attention to. You just might be filtering out the good stuff.

One Time Investment

Why it's so great to know this is that you only need to fix your subconscious once. Once you download whatever that's more helpful to you, your subconscious will act on your behalf throughout the day without any effort or input from you.

Everyday we only have a limited amount of willpower and things we can be aware about. Choose one thing and slowly we dig whatever it is out into your conscious mind so that you re-train yourself on how to act.

Eventually and slowly with many conscious interventions, the new behaviour will be programmed into your subconscious mind and you can move on to something else.

Struggle In Your Daily Life

If you struggle at any point in your day, that is your subconscious mind at work. You can use these points of struggle to identify what kind of puppet is pulling strings on your life.

Struggle and suffer consciously, because behind your suffering is the key to your solution. Some part of your subconscious is playing the programming that is causing that exact problem. With some awareness, you can finally slay this beast.

Survival And Experience

When you encounter a problem for the first time in your life, your first reaction was to just scramble the best solution you can muster and use that as a band-aid. Since you were inexperienced, you just repeatedly used that solution until it was programmed as a new software.

Problem with that is that your program is half-baked. So although running this program is tolerable, it is filled with bugs and errors. Over time as you accumulate more and more of these faulty programs, it will wreck havoc in your life.

So your job is to install a software update and fix the buggy parts. If that software behaves more like a virus, then you would have to uninstall the entire thing and download something that is entirely new.

How To Download Something New

Realistically, putting awareness on your problems just once is not enough. You need to do it again and again, hundreds of times over the week to see any sort of meaningful change. Especially so if this problem is habitual.

You also have to write the new code in by acting againts your old programming. When you disregard the old behaviours constantly, it will be replaced by the new one that you want.

Instinctually, you dont want to do whatever your conscious mind is trying to tell you to do. So it becomes like an angel or devil flying over your head telling you to do the opposite thing. This is called resistance.

Resistance

When you're trying to program something new into your subconscious you will face various ways where you will resist or self-deceive so that you can try to maintain whatever you have built (the virus don't want to change). Here are a list of resistances that appears in your life:

  1. Procrastination
  2. Denial
  3. Justification
  4. Rationalization
  5. Distraction
  6. Blame
  7. Demonization
  8. Avoidance
  9. Indecisiveness
  10. Victimization

The key is that you continuously place awareness on your resistance when it pops up, because those are your old patterns and behaviours. After you become aware of them, you act in the way you wish to behave. Over time by doing this again and again, the new behaviour will become the default and the problem will be solved.

Prevention Techniques

Affirmations pose as a good way to program your subconscious. Tell yourself using a short sentence of three to five words regarding the thing you want to change. Repeat these affirmations to yourself at least 5 times a day. "I am attractive", or "I am confident."

As previously discussed, visualization is a good way as well. Spend 5 minutes a day thinking and dreaming about how you would like to act and behave when it comes to that thing.

Let's say you're struggling to lose weight, then just visualize how fit and attractive you will be walking down the beach with attractive women running over to give you their attention for 5 minutes a day.

Ego Backlash

Ego backlash is when you severely backslide on your progress and it lasts for about a week. Ego backlash is good because it means that it is your ego's last ditch effort on trying to preserve your old ways.

This is normal and there is nothing to be alarmed about. Just take it easy and let yourself suffer and backslide consciously. David Hoffmeister described the mind as an oscillator. When you try to push it too much in one way (change), it will use that energy and bounce it back in the other way (ego backlash).

You should celebrate in periods of ego backlash. This means that you are successfully growing yourself into a better person. Give yourself more time to relax and enjoy the simple pleasures during times of ego backlash and put self-development into the backburner.

Conclusion

Brainstorm ways to become more aware in your life. Educating yourself right now is one great way to become more aware. This article here just taught you how to turn inwards and find these answers for yourself without relying on third-party sources like FriendlyWrenChilling.

That's it for me. Best of luck. Please check out my other posts and practice everything holistically. Send me an email if you want a specific topic written. You can see "coaching" to see if I have room to onboard new students.
